This is me being an Avatard so if you aren't one, plz ignore.

This'll take some explaining:
I'm a member of CAPSLOCK_ATLA, a crack community for Avatar. Well, a while back we had a (facetious, all in fun) post about how during the creation of the "Dragon Dance", Brian, Mike, (co-creators of Avatar) and Sifu Kisu (their martial arts expert) were all gay for each other, NOT FOR SRS. Well, along with some other quotes, I was quoted as writing "This is one of those times when I hope the creators don't read this comm. Or rather, I hope they do? :D".

In any case, Sifu Kisu did, indeed, find our comm - and then he found that very post! O_O He got offended by it at the time and posted about the situation on his Myspace, which a capslocker found and showed to everyone. We then proceeded to post lots of stuff about his reactions in hopes that he would see it (or not). Well, guess whose animation got posted in his response Myspace post? That's right, mine and [info]omgimsuchadork's! XD

(Also a point to note - Piandao, the character in the animation's character design is based on Sifu Kisu).

Here's his response entry:

And here's the magnificent animation:

Hey guys, guess who found my LJ?

HI MOMMY! ;D

It's okay, she's a fandom mommy, so she was understanding of *that* post. Of course, the first thing she asked was "Why wasn't Obi-wan at the top of the list?" And of course, my answer to that was, it was in no particular order. DUH.

Bye mommy! I better friend you now~

WE GOT NOMINATED!

All of us! Me, Adri, and Nicole all got nominated for the foreign exchange program, WHOOOO!

Of course, we can still get rejected, but still, we made it past the first hurdle, which is pretty major.

We have a meeting tomorrow for....I'm not sure what. But it might be to decide even more who to choose? I dunno. I only put down one country (guess which one! C'mon, I'm such a Japanophile it's not even funny...) so maybe I have a better chance of getting in? I really wanna go with Nicole, or at lasst someone I know....>.> Mi-chan! Eri-ko! I wish you guys could come! >.<

YEEEEAAAAAA! Exciteeeed!

OH MAN, I'm pretty sure my exchange interview could not have gone better. I got the sweetest interviewer evar <3 COMD guy Mr. Bacich.

Not only that, but I came while Nicole was still interviewing a bit and for about five minutes we interviewed together. He noticed how tense Nicole was before I came in and how we loosened up around each other, and he said he likes to send people who are compatible, and that he would definitely recommend us! >.< SQUEEE.

SOOOO HAPPY.

Sooo, today I had the first meeting of costume club, which was mildly successful - four people who I did not know came! WHOO! I dunno if they'll come next week, though, because I am a TERRIBLE public speaker >.< Michele saved my ass though so....we'll see.

IN ANY CASE. I reserved the lounge from 7pm to closing at 11, so we had a niiiice big space to work on our IchiP costumes! YEEEY! We actually got quite a bit done! So here are some lovely progress pictures. (Unfortunately we didn't take any of Erica D: SAD FACE. She's fairly far along though). Also, please note the fine photography workmanship o'mine - $40,000 a year right there.

IchiP-fuku ga iino desu! Kawaiiii! )

I would like to recount something that I find amusing, which is that whenever I get dressed up/Jen K dresses me up, I'm nearly unrecognizable.
Jen did so a couple of days ago and took photos of me for photography class, which Nicole is in. Then Nicole told me today that people in the class were looking at the pictures and said something to this effect: "Is that Laura Kovalcin? The nerdy, mousy girl? She should dress like that every day." Which is such a backhanded compliment Y/Y?

Ohmaigai! Break is ending so soon?! (I'm going back early for IchiP! week, so actually this is my last week home). I think my Mom's upset about me leaving early, since there isn't a solid reason to go other than I miss NY and I miss my awesome pals....SIGH.

Nothing really special to report. I got some good stuff for Christmas, though!
-Doctor Who boxset (OLD SKOOL BITCHES - Tom Baker and Peter Davidson)
-My OWN Firefly boxset! I can stop stealing my family's.
-Star Wars: Ep II (now I only need Ep 1 to finish my collection!)
- Some arty supplies
- 2 gift cards to Joann Fabrics (1 of which I spent the day after -_-;;)
- An awesome scifi/fantasy illustration book from mom - probably my favorite
- FMA calendar
-Soon-to-be manga from Erica :D

Umm....what else...OH!

While my sister was spending her Xmas gift card at Barnes and Noble, I saw that the newest volume of Full Metal Alchemist was out, and proceeded to buy it. While I was buying it, the guy at the checkout asked me if I liked the manga or anime storyline better. Anime fans unite! WOO! Anyway, for some reason the conversation got around to conventions, and not only is he going to Katsucon, but he's cosplaying! (As Azure Kite or something from dot hack, but whatever). What a cah-razy coincidence! XD So I gave him our table name (we better have that half-table now, IchiP!).

And the Doctor Who Christmas episode? AWESOME! Banakafalata FTW! [[[SPOILER SPOILER]] Read more... )[[SPOILER END]]

Not much other news... hmm....although, ever since Erica lent me this one manga volume before break, I've been going on a yaoi-reading binge >//.//< !! And as a result...well...I can't stop drawing shonen-ai....someone save me!! Is there a shonen-ai artist rehab?!
The only good part about it is, now I'm super happy to work on Erica's Christmas present manga! (Which I will tell no one what the premise is now, but I'm sure you can either guess or will find out eventually as what's left of my shame slowly seeps away...)

So tomorrow, to the movies! And the next day - to Michele's New Year's party, YAAAY! XD

And now, to sleep....(note the timestamp on this entry, ehehe....)

Well, now that the hype has been thoroughly over for a week or two, I've finally decided to post all my photos! Heh, heh...

First of all, current-ish events (feel free to skip to the photos below ^^)!
So I brought the 3D picture of IchiP! home with me, and my mom looked at it for a full thirty seconds or so, puzzled, and then said, "where are you?" XD My mother literally did not know me. I was straight up front, for those who don't know.

And man, I feel good since I got home. I really wish I wasn't obligated to call the Children's Place to work, because to tell the truth I have enough money at the moment and I'd much rather work on ART, dammit! My own art!

Speaking of which, in this time putting off calling the Children's Place, I've been working a bit on my manga for manga club (and a secret one, which most of you will probably never see, sorry!) and I'm so proud of myself ^^ I don't often feel so good about having my own art done. I know it seems a bit pompous but even I can see how I've improved over this past semester. *sigh* Ureshiiii~!

Also, it seems I'm now going through my "Phoenix Wright" fangirling phase. I feel really stupid saying that because as you may know, I don't play video games, as a result of me SUCKING ASS at them. Luckily Youtube has extensive walkthroughs of at least the third game. That's right, Nicole and Erica, shake your heads at me!! But now that I've seen the case it was involved in I want to make that Maggey Byrde waitress outfit even more!! >.< And the poses for taking photos are much easier than normal!

Now on to
PHOTOS - Finally!

A bunny Mikuru was handing out flyers for Anime Boston...how cute!

On the line to get my Dramacon book signed, there was a Matt and a Christie cosplayer.

Eureka and Anemone winter versions. So cool!

A super hot Kamina from Gurren Lagann. Dayumn. (What, I like 'em skinny!)

Simon and someone else from Gurren Lagann.

A fantastic Haruhi! One of the best I've seen.

A yankii Haruhi, with her very own Kyon!

Haruhi harrassing a very adorable Mikuru.

A nice-lookin' Jin. (That's for you, Erica).

On Saturday, we found a Kagamin! Whoo!

Also on Saturday, it's a Konata! Who does she think she is, getting all uppity just because she's in the actual show?!

On Sunday we found a FRICKIN' MAN HARUHI! Amazing!!

The best-in-show winners, from Code Geass. Makes me want to start watching it.

A kind of out-of-character Mei from Avatar. Whaaa? Smiling?!XD

Midna and...someone else who had the most AMAZING costumes I've ever seen O_O We all had girl crushes on them, pretty much.

At some point during the weekend, our Lucky Star sign became an "Objection!!" sign, and thus, Akira had an objection to Minoru's crotch...

....Aaand Minoru had an objection to Jacob Javits' crotch.

The girls of Phoenix Wright!

The guys of Phoenix Wright.

An awesome Rinali, from D.Gray-man.

A fantasmical Azula! O_O Great workmanship!

SE3 Katara, from the Invasion.

SE3 Fire Nation Katara. She's familiar but I'm not sure why...

A C3PO with, yes that's right, my R2D2 backpack!

An absolutely ADORABLE Yotsuba, from Yotsuba&. I talked with her and her dad while on line for Svetlana, and her dad was so protective and sweet, he wasn't sure if she should read the last volume of Dramacon because there was a questionable scene. ^^

Me with Svetlana Chmakova, not only one of the greatest North American manga creators EVAR (Dramacon anyone?!) but also one of the sweetest ladies you will ever meet. SO NICE!

HURRA! TEME! Yankiis do no like these stupid frilly swings! KONO YARRRO!

WHEW! I think that's it! I really can't wait til the next con...which is...Katsucon, isn't it? Ahhhh! So soon! I better relax more quickly....

Ah, it's been a while, hasn't it?  And although I'm exhausted and I need to sleep, I also need to post this update before I lose the feeling of the con.

FRIDAY: Was amazing.  I cosplayed Katara and recieved and gave much love to the other cosplayers, especially Avatar cosplayers, of which there were pretty few.  So most of the day was spent getting there, and going to the Avatar panel. The panel was mostly about Nick Magazine, although they did show us some good preview pictures of background art for the rest of the season, which is gorgeous as usual.  My friend Alison was on the panel (AKA the Avatard who was a zuko with a "flameo and the hotmen" tshirt for Halloween XD), yay!  There was some funny stuff about a sidestory for Sokka in the little booklets they had with the individual DVDs.  There was also some "preview" storyboards which parodied the ending for Harry Potter, but they also said they were real, or something?  I dunno, but older Aang is H-O-T, hot.  And older Sokka, lose the goatee thing and you're mine.

Then we proceeding to wait in line for the masq, or the lack of a line.  Some poor planner had decided it was a good idea to just let people in when the masquerade was scheduled to start instead of forming a line.  Whatever.  So we just hung out and got decent seats.
The masquerade I would say was average overall. Needless to say they did not get the 40 entries they anticipated.  Luckily, there were some VERY good skits (unfortunately there were bad ones but I'll skip them).  There was a couple of really good ones.  The one we thought was gonna win was a Midna and some other character who had a decent skit and ABSOLUTELY AMAZING COSTUMES, but alas.  The other skit, a pair of character from Code Geass, had great costumes and a great skit and they took four prizes including best in show, but for some strange reason they didn't win the World Cosplay Summit prize....because the other group was "flashier".  WTF?!  The other group was good but I mean really.  What the hell, judges.
Since they took a hella long time for judging we left right afterwards and I got back pretty late, and then stayed up til 6 working on my Akira costume.

SATURDAY: Was MORE amazing.  My and Erica's B-Dar (bishie radar) was off the scale, btw.  Amanda came with us - it was her first con, too, and she did so well! - and she got harrassed, which I'll mention later.  I wore Akira and Erica wore Minoru from Lucky Star and man oh man, did we get stopped a lot.  Apparently Lucky Star is very popular but has very few cosplayers, not to mention NO other Akira and Minorus at the con.  And it was so much fun being those characters!  Although as Erica pointed out, for some reason I always choose the bitch characters....*sigh*.  If you want to see a video of me being a douche and Erica being an adorable boy, here ya go, provided by Hoshimaru57:

http://youtube.com/watch?v=shE7zXSuuLQ

So then later the most amazing thing happened - I finally came across a Svetlana Chmakova signature line!!  For those who don't know, she writes and draws Dramacon, in my opinion the best American manga I've ever read.  So I was pumped, and I got it signed and I got a picture with her.
And at some other point, like I said, Amanda got harrassed.  She was Yumiko from Read or Die and goddamn if it wasn't amazing for her first cosplay.  So we were sitting down and some guy comes up and sits right in front of us and tells her what a good Yumiko costume it was.  She was happy, he was complimenting her, and then he went on to obsess about how her hair wasn't correct.  This guy wasn't even wearing a costume, and her hair is pretty close to the character anyway, so I don't know what the hell his deal was.
Anyway, most of the rest of the day we hung around and wore our amazing costumes and got asked for photos.  Yay!

SUNDAY:  May have been the best day!  Just kidding they were all cool, though it ended badly for poor Bin-Chin (Venus).
pWell anyway, we got there pretty early and showed Michele around.  We were Yankiis and Venus was our scared schoolgirl with an original school uniform from Japan.  She carried the Lucky Channel sign from the day before, because on the other side of the sign it says "IchiP!  Ask about our dances".  And beleive me, many people did.  We got asked pretty much every 20 feet, and we had to cover up "ask about our dances" because we were getting so tired.  But it was fun, I have a feeling a lot of people will be posting them very soon...hopefully...
So later I went on a spending spree - I'm pretty sure I spent upwards of $150 this weekend - and we got a nice photo of all of us in our Yankii/schoolgirl poses, which came with some purikura-like stickers which are now on our phones.  And we found this amazingly nice guy in artist alley who takes 3D photos - you heard right, with 3D glasses and everything - and we got 4 prints, one for each of us.  And just because he was so unbelievably nice, accomodating, and all around helpful, I'm gonna plug him as much as I can, so!:

3DCOSPLAY.COM! 3DCOSPLAY.COM!  GO NOW!!

Go and find him at a con if he's going, it is SO worth getting a print!  I think he's going to Anime Boston this year.  He'll do anything he can to make you happy with the photo.  He even thought of ideas for poses and places for us to do it, and as soon as I get my copy from Erica I'm going to post it, hopefully.
So around lunchtime Venus and Michele went to have lunch with the creators of Chugworth Academy (great webcomic, another thing to check out!) and me and Erica went to the "Who Wants to be a Voice Actor?" competition, which Erica did NOT enter because she wasn't prepared.  Sigh.  It was very entertaining and there were some really good entrants, and we're fairly sure Mike Sinterniklaas kept looking at us o.O  God, what an adorable man.
When we met up with them later they were at the Gothic Lolita booth and Michele was preparing to buy a dress/is going to buy it later.  Unfortunately there was also a gorgeous skirt she wanted but couldn't afford at the time, so Erica, Venus, and me huddled together and decided to split it for her Chanukkah present.  She thought we were going to lend her the money when we showed it to her, but then we told her we were going to buy it and she started crying! T^T  SO CUTE, MICHELE!  And she looks fantastic in it to boot.

Finally we bought some Phoenix Wright buttons and left.  We went to McDonald's and got some cheap-ass food, and all was fine until we got to the Clinton-Washington stop by Pratt and there were some asshole middle/high-school kids hanging off of the second turnstile.  Well, we went through the other turnstile, Venus first, and the douchebag kid came up and did a "boo"!-ish thing.  So, Venus said, "fuck you, kid" because he deserved it, and of course they fell in step behind us and harrassed us all the way up the stairs.  As soon as we got out we found it was raining pretty hard, which luckily calmed Venus down a little, but it made the going miserable.  We showed Venus "boot to the head", and we filmed the Kodocha dance (unsuccessfully on my part, I might add, because I kept fucking up one section).

So now my legs burn from all the walking/dancing and I'm gonna sleep in this bed which seems the comfiest thing in the world right now.  ^^  Pictures will be added later when Photobucket isn't being a butt....

ARGH. I'm super tired but I can't sleep...it's what, 4am? Stupid survey/costume/dancing/convention.....going through my mind.....

ANYWAY. For anyone who cares, here's my NYAF schedule:

FRIDAY - cosplaying SE2 Katara - arrive around 3. I'll definitely be at the Avatar panel at 4, obviously, and there'll probably be a photoshoot or something afterwards. If anyone wants to come watch the masquerade with me later, let me know! (And of COURSE, Venus, you'll be coming with me, yes?)

SATURDAY - cosplaying hopefully Akira Kogami of Lucky Star/Channel, if not then I'll be in my Haruhi group as either Haruhi or Mikuru. Will arrive as soon as the con opens, around 10am. I'll be dragging...I mean...ahem....SHOWING around my friend Amanda who is a total Con newbie, so please be gentle with her, everyone! I'll hopefully be meeting Sventlana Chmakova later in the day, also! (Kudos if you know who she is :3)

SUNDAY - cosplaying a Yankii (japanese street biker gang member) with Michele and Eri. Will probably be there at 10am and leave fairly late because it's Michele's only day.

Ah, well. I guess I'll try to sleep again. I have to get up in 4 hours....*sigh*. How can people pull all nighters all semester long?!

Urgh....I need the money, but...

I'm working at the Children's Place over Thanksgiving weekend, which is bad enough (I just want to relax T^T) but this is my schedule:

Wednesday 7 AM-3:30 PM
Friday 9:15-5:30 (BLACK FRIDAY)
Saturday 12-6:15

SEVEN FUCKING AM. That means getting up at 6. And after my little bouts of 3-hours-of-sleep these past 2 days I am gonna be a TOTAL bitch. Watch me growl at small children!

And working on Black Friday. My biggest problem working there before was remembering where everything went, and now that I've been gone I'm positive they've moved EVERYTHING. And people are gonna be fuckin' crazy on Black Friday. AARGH.

Kill me now, I just want to sleep for 20 hours straight. Is that too much to ask?

Hay guyz!

So our group can't enter the masquerade!! We didn't really expect to win anything, but we might have had a chance! Unfortunately, we had to be present for the checkin time on Friday. Checkin time is 2:30 to 5. Everyone other than me gets OUT of class at 5 -_- !! Why the hell are they having the masquerade on a Friday anyways?! *UGH*

But good news, we now have time for a different costume, so me and Erica are doing Akira Kogami and Minoru from Lucky Channel/Lucky Star!! (Venus/Michele, if you would like to do matching outfits, I.E. Serafuku, plz let us know! ;D)

Okay, so as of now, my costume schedule is as follows:
Friday: Katara (maybe SE3 invasion version?) because of the fscking panel YAAAAY!! >.<
Saturday: Akira Kogami! Whooo!
Sunday:Yankii! Kurrre! Kono YARO!

Friday I'll be leaving relatively early, so hopefully I'll see everyone there!

FUCKING EPIC.

Let's just say eps. 10 and 11 were leaked onto the 'net and I saw them. AND THEY WERE A-MA-ZING. I was watching them, alone in my room at 2 am, and I was still flailing and squeeing like the effing fangirl I am. I almost woke Maryellen up. SERIOUSLY.

There are just....no....words....I reacted to this one more than I've ever reacted to any other episode. This amount of reaction is reserved for my most favored obsessions: Pretty much all of SW:ep3, my crying at the Nina episode of FMA, the squeeing at the blooming scene of Eureka 7, the crying at the end of Doctor Who SE2, and the shock at the end of Serenity. Yea, THOSE.

These will be said in a modgepodge fashion because the AWESOME is so overwhelming that I can't contain myself. Although, they won't be in CAPSLOCK LIKE A CERTAIN OTHER SOMEONE I KNOW BECAUSE I FEEL LIKE YOU'VE GOT THAT COVERED.

Ok, now to extremely spoilery thoughts. )

...."He taught me a life lesson on my face".

Is there anyone else who thought dirty thoughts on this line? Stupid Zuko.

Okay, so I am SO happy with more backstory in this episode. I thought in the last season that Ty Lee and Mai were sort of extraneous characters with very little personality but their backstories helped SO much. Still not a big fan of Mai but I see where she's coming from. And man, Ty Lee is kind of a bitch >.> "Hello? Shade?"

And Azula + failed attempt at joke = WIN. "You know, cause it's so sharp." I sometimes feel like that after I've told a joke, though.....

NOW! Venus had a free day today so she came, and even though Michele wasn't there (tear!) we had some good dance practicing. I taught her a bit of Dancin' and Dreamin' and she taught me and Erica a tiny bit of a lot of dances, and all of Ike Ike. My muscles will undoubtedly be BURNING tomorrow.

Well, I'ma sleep now that it's almost 2.

If you want to skip all my long-winded explanation, go to the last video, although you may not understand why it's awesome to me.

SO!!!

This year at 3am after Otakon, me, Erica, and Venus were all hyped up, and Venus was trying on my Katara costume and we thought it would be a fantastic idea to make a funny video. Let me show you the process:

1. We found a video of funny parody -
http://youtube.com/watch?v=AYxu_MQSTTY

2. Make a parody of the parody - this is what we did. We know it's stupid, but to us it's hilarious.
http://youtube.com/watch?v=3_xYapTHd4s

3. HOLY SHIT THIS IS THE AMAZING PART. Someone did a PARODY of OUR PARODY of a PARODY. O_O
http://youtube.com/watch?v=9Z53NQTShAk

Okay, so it's a couple of kids with a basic video editing program (just like me!) but, I mean....gosh. We feel so loved >.< This totally made my week.
